Cyclone hits Tamil Nadu

The first cyclone in JR’s memory has hit the Tamil Nadu coast. Kovalam escaped the worst of the damage but, as VMT trustee Jude explains, Chennai and Pondicherry weren’t so lucky:

“Chennai and Pondicherry are devastated by the cyclone “Thane” and Pondy is affected a lot. Everything is shut, the roads are blocked by fallen trees, houses flooded. When I woke up this morning, I found myself almost floating on pool of water inside the bedroom. My flat on the second floor was flooded. It will take at least 20 days for Pondy to come back to normalcy. Power cut is likely to extend for a week. Though the storm in Chennai was not as fierce as Pondy (140 km/hour) the city is flooded and the telephone networks are kind of jammed especially cellphone networks. Most the cell phone signal towers are uprooted. Somehow I reached the office after getting drenched. There is power back up in just one of the floors in the office.”
