VMT Tenth Anniversary

The Trust’s Tenth Anniversary celebrations were held on Sunday, 27 April at the Sussex County Cricket Ground in Hove. The main purpose of the curry lunch – a sell out with supporters coming from all over the country – was to honour the three Kovalam trustees who have played such a pivotal role in the Trust’s success. Sadly however, inexplicably and with absolutely no justification, JR’s and Ali’s visas were refused at the 11th hour by the British High Commission in Chennai. This was a huge disappointment to both supporters and JR and Ali whose bags were already packed. Despite this bitter blow, they managed successfully to be part of the proceedings via Skype and Jude, the third Kovalam trustee who was allowed in, played a masterful role. Triumph was snatched from the jaws of disaster and a very happy time was had by all. The supporters enjoyed hearing about Kovalam from the India end and seeing the video. Many comments were made on the very special and palpable atmosphere created by the 120 guests who were all supporting the same cause.

Three children’s cricket bats, kindly signed by all the Sussex cricket team, were presented to Jude, on behalf of Team Kovalam, by UK trustees Nick Goslett, Sarah Da Silva and Lindsay Swan. Each will be on show in the appropriate age group’s classroom and a Sussex Cricket Tournament will be held each year. The winning team’s details will be inscribed on the reverse side of the bat.
