How the money is spent

The Trust bought land in the village on which it built the Venkat Tuition Centre. On two floors, the Centre has three main rooms and an office and is used, among other things, for English and sewing lessons. The recreation area outside is planted with palm and coconut trees and there are swings and seesaws for the children to play on.

In recent floods the school was waterlogged for so long that it had to be filled with earth, raising the level by 3ft, which meant the platform, used for many school activities, was lost. The kitchen and WC block were also destroyed, the well polluted and the classroom flooded during the rainy season. A large 2-storey building and large dining hall have been built. The dining hall doubles up for assemblies and performances.

How you can help

Can you make a monthly standing order to the Trust? Our costs are rising and we are committed each month to paying all or some of the salaries of three teachers. We also pay for a night watchman at the Centre, a cleaner, school fees, teachers, electricity and telephone bills.

Any amount would help and will go a long way in Kovalam - £3, £5, £10, £20 a month. Please contact us on info@venkattrust.org.uk for a standing order form.
